Safety Report: J. Foreman
Ashtrays: The ashtrays in the waste bins on the street need maintenance, they are rusting out. This could be a problem if lit cigarettes fall into the waste bin and cause a fire.
Delivery truck & Bus stop: There is an issue with deliveries being made to Cross Canada Pharmacy where a truck making a delivery there parks partly in the bus area, such that the bus can’t let off passengers properly. The truck is not there long, but long enough to cause difficulty, this usually occurs around 10 AM.
Crosswalk at Concession & East 22nd: Someone had mentioned that the corner of East 22nd and Concession looks as if it might pose a danger to pedestrians crossing. There is only a stop sign for cars turning from East 22nd onto Concession. A lady was hit there a couple of years ago. Some time ago someone from the City had erected a temporary device at the corner, it was up for part of a day and then it was removed, so not sure if the City was monitoring traffic there or not.
Marketing Report:
Zoetic Sponsorship update: There is a random draw for each screening as to which businesses will be promoted. We are working on a plan to put in place for ways to track how this initiative is working for the businesses. We would like to work with the businesses to share their promotions to viewers at the screenings.
Get in the Loop update: The discussion for the BIA to join Get in the Loop has been tabled, more conversations with businesses need to happen along with weighing the cost vs benefits for everyone involved.
CHCH events commercials: Will we change the visuals/audio or keep them the same? (There is a cost to changing them, depending on what is being changed) It is in our yearly marketing budget specifically to work with CHCH, which would be for the commercial ads being aired and for the remote live on locations in businesses within the BIA. We need to select the dates/weeks for the remotes.
Events Report:
Streetfest Update: We have reached out to St. John Ambulance for first aid, AJ-Spider Security for security, and Direct Traffic Management Inc. for the road closure who has already given us a quote.
Sidewalk Sounds Survey: This was sent out to membership VIA email, we also plan to go into each business with a paper copy for better participation to get as much feedback as possible. This is to understand what is and is not working for the businesses during Sidewalk Sounds, among other events as we will be doing feedback surveys after each event.
Performer List: This has been put together for Sidewalk Sounds & Streetfest from the musicians and entertainers that have reached out with interest to working with the BIA. We will continuously be adding to this list as we reach out to groups and contacts, we really want to add many more diverse acts to our schedules this year to be more inclusive to ensure our events are engaging and enjoyable for everyone who attends. We have been working through the list and reaching out to the artists for their availability to book.
Executive Director Updates: A. Chavez
OBIAA Conference Update: Have received the invoice for the tickets and have sent the cheque for payment. The hotel has been booked as well.
Newsletter: We want to bring back the BIA’s newsletters, sending out to the membership and posting on our website and social media pages. We will also be printing it out and bringing it to businesses in person.
