No meeting due to holiday summer vacation schedules
As we are not hosting a BIA meeting this month, I wanted to share with all of your my latest updates.
BIA:
2022 BIA Action Plan has been finalized. Document will be shared with Board in separate email. This document is intended to serve as a map and guide for the new term Board. A “to do” list so to speak of projects we would like to see implemented in our BIA.
AGM has been finalized for Thursday Oct 20th, 2022. Notification asking for Board nominees has been sent out to the membership. In early Sept the official AGM invite will be sent out to membership and property owners (minimum 45 days prior to AGM).
Beautification:
Budget:
Bookkeeper reports to come in separate email shortly.
Marketing:
No updates. Status quo on digital billboard signs, boosted social media, digital marketing plan, and continuous engagement with local newspaper media.
Events:
Safety:
BIA Updates:
Although we have seen some businesses close (family issues, moving out of province, or the property being sold) it is SO EXCITING to see the continued growth and low vacancy in our BIA. No sooner than a property becomes available, they seem to be snatched up! Check out this incredibly exciting lineup of changes coming to Concession…
That is all for now. Please let me know if you have any questions. Our next Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday Sept 15th via Zoom. The Board will also have to meet in Sept to approve the budget for 2023. Meeting details to follow.
Have a great day everyone. Talk soon.

Beautification:
- Escalation about weeds at base of Concession Street trees has been addressed and all weeds have been cleaned up.
- Beautiful Alleys Fall Clean Up on Concession Street scheduled for Saturday Oct 1st (9am to 1pm).
- New mural installed on the side of Big Bee (east of Sherman Cut). This was a Concrete Canvas project. Happy that this City initiative is now including our BIA.
- New mural in progress for 402 Concession (Yimee’s). A private company has offered to sponsor this mural (YAY no cost to BIA or the business). Theme will include views of Hamilton from the mountain brow and honour the TiCats. Muralist Tim Ninehouse has been commissioned for this project. Estimated completion date: Fall 2022
- Winter inserts. I am investigating the cost to use lawn signs with positive messages printed on them instead of the winter tree branches. Potential for cost savings, less theft, wind damage to inserts and a great way to get creative with messaging for the community (ie. Thank you for supporting local, Happy Holidays, etc.) More details to come so the Board can decide which decorative option they want to use this winter.
Budget:
Bookkeeper reports to come in separate email shortly.
Marketing:
No updates. Status quo on digital billboard signs, boosted social media, digital marketing plan, and continuous engagement with local newspaper media.
Events:
- Summer Music Series coming to Concession Street this Saturday August 13th. Two musicians from 2-4pm playing at 593 Concession (Mt Tire). No cost to BIA – fully paid for by the City of Hamilton.
- MotoSocial came to Concession on August 9th 7pm to approx. 9:30pm). Approx 300 motorcycles arrived on Concession. No significant issues reported. A few community complaints about the noise but the BIA reiterated that this event was notified in advance and they did leave before 10pm. We have no further information about them returning. All good.
- BookCrawl is now a BIA managed event. We have changed up the layout. Instead of spreading out authors along Concession they will now be grouped in a “Book Market” beside the library. The parking lot between 555 and 565 will be used for authors the third Sat of every month 10am to 1pm moving forward. Permission secured from the property owner. This will give the authors a sense of community and some shelter from the wind (particularly in the winter months – event runs year round).
- August Sidewalk Sounds is scheduled for Sat Aug 20th. Five musicians – all information posted on our website. Flow Lifestyle will also be launching her “Go with the Flow” Makers Alley on these dates, inviting some of her suppliers to set up outside. We encourage all businesses to engage with the community, set up outside and scale Sidewalk Sounds to be an event that draws more of the community out. Music can only do so much. Everyone’s participation will definitely help.
- Sept Sidewalk Sounds is scheduled for Sat Sept 17th. This month we will go out with a bang – our last music series of the season – with 7 entertainers. All information is posted on our BIA website.
- Fall for Concession is happening Sat Oct 1st and Sat Oct 8th (10am to 5pm). Email was sent out to the membership asking for maximum participation as this event will be promoted as Sidewalk Sale days. We will have three musicians performing each day under the pergola at 569 Concession. Acts have all been confirmed that will include a Black Pop Artist, Hamilton Alt-Pop musician, Indigenous Artist, Country Singers, and a Black Reggae singer. Excited for the excellent diverse talent that will be showcased over these two days. All information is posted to our BIA website.
Safety:
- Reported attempts of car break ins made to HPS
- Vagrancy on the rise in our area. If anyone feels threatened or wishes to have someone move on, please call the Non-Emerg Number of HPS and ask to engage the Social Navigator for assistance. 905-540-4925.
- Continued engagement with our Crime Manager, Sgt Curtis Patton to stay on top of any and all issues impacting our BIA.
